JAMMU, Sept 27: The Central Board for Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to extend the date for filing of ITRs and Tax Audit Reports from September 30, 2019 to October 31, 2019 in respect of persons whose accounts are required to be audited.
A formal notification will be issued shortly, the Department tweeted.
However, no extension has been extended to J&K where internet services and mobile connectivity were snapped from 5th August.
No dates were extended for non audited Income Tax Assesses of J&K who were required to file their income Tax Returns by 31st August 2019 but could not do so due to lack of internet facilities & prevailing situation in the State.
Only broadband internet connections have been restored and that too only in Jammu province. Mobile voice connections are also yet to be restored in whole of Kashmir province. There is still no certainty regarding restoration of internet & communication lines.
Inspite of receiving a number of representations from various trade, business & professional bodies of J&K, the Finance Ministry & CBDT surprisingly have not heeded to the genuine requests of these bodies till date. Accordingly a number of assesses who could not file their Income Tax returns in time are being subject to payment of interest & also penalty upto Rs. 5000 for absolutely no fault of theirs. Also, businesses who have suffered losses during the last financial year are not able to carry forward & set off their losses in the subsequent financial years since belated return filers are not allowed to do so.
