NEW DELHI, Nov 23:
The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has put up a pavilion at the ongoing India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2013 to popularise and publicise Service Tax Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme (VCES).
“The Focus of the Pavilion this year is to popularise/publicise Service Tax Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme (VCES) announced by Finance Minister P Chidambaram in his Budget speech and which has come into effect on 10th May, 2013,” CBEC’s Additional Commissioner (Publicity) Alok Jha said today.
The objective of the scheme is to encourage disclosure of tax dues and compliance of service tax law by the persons who have not paid service tax dues for the period from October, 2007 to December, 2012 either on account of ignorance of law or otherwise, Jha added.
CBEC chairperson Praveen Mahajan after inaugurating the pavilion had earlier said that on payment of the tax dues relating to the said period, there will be complete waiver of interest, penalty and other proceedings and consequences.
A Service Tax VCES help desk has also been set up at the pavilion to accept declarations under this scheme and also to answer any queries related to this scheme. (PTI)
