NEW DELHI, Nov 17:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Superintendent of Central Goods and Services Tax (Audit) posted at Audit Circle-VI, Gandhidham (Gujarat) in an alleged bribery case, the probe agency said today.
A case was registered against Superintendent on the allegation of demanding undue advantage of Rs 2.40 lakh from the complainant for the containers he cleared during his earlier posting as Superintendent, Customs, Kandla Port, CBI in a statement stated.
It was further alleged that the accused told the complainant to pay the said amount so as to save him from the audit which he threatened to conduct, if the undue advantage was not paid, it stated.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while accepting an alleged bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant. Searches were conducted at the office and residential premises of the accused which led to recovery of Rs 6.50 lakh and incriminating documents from his residential premises, it added. (UNI)
