CBI arrests income tax officer, CISF inspector in separate graft cases

NEW DELHI, Feb 10: CBI has arrested an Income Tax officer from Lucknow for allegedlty demanding a bribe of Rs five lakh to settle a tax-related matter.

CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said here today that a case was registered against an Inspector, Income Tax, Range III, Lucknow for allegedly demanding illegal gratification Rs five lakh on behalf of an Income Tax Officer from the complainant for settling the income tax matter of his mother.

She said CBI laid a trap and the Income Tax Inspector was apprehended while demanding and accepting Rs 50,000 as part payment of the demanded bribe amount of Rs five lakh from the complainant. Searches were conducted at his residential premises.

She said that in a separate case in Rajasthan, a CISF officer and an office superintendent, working in the office of Deputy Director, Technical Education, Jaipur have been arrested in a bribery case of Rs 50,000.

“A case was registered on a complaint alleging that the office superintendent was demanding Rs. Three lakhs to influence the CISF officer for getting the complainant selected in the medical test for the post of Driver (Constable) in CISF,” she said.

The spokesperson said CBI laid a trap and the office superintendent was arrested while allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 50,000 as first instalment from the complainant on behalf of CISF Inspector(Company Commander).

She said the CISF Inspector was also arrested. (PTI)
