CBI Court acquits BSNL official from trap case

JAMMU, Jan 19: Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu (CBI Cases) B L Bhat has acquitted the then lineman of BSNL posted at Sarwal, who was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 500 as bribe from the complainant for installing telephone.
After hearing Public Prosecutor Neeraj Bhardwaj for the State whereas Advocate R K Kotwal appearing for the accused, Special Judge Anticorruption observed, “it is unfortunate that the complainant despite initially demonstrating zeal and enthusiasm to bring the corrupt official to book for criminal misconduct adopted a soft stand later to spare the accused”.
“Corruption has assumed menacing proportions. The people’s resolve to fight corrupt is the most effective weapon. Mere preaching will not yield the desired result and route out the evil of corruption”, the Court observed and acquitted the accused Satpal of the charges leveled against him.
