JAMMU, Apr 27: CBI Court today rejected the bail application of SHO Loran Police Station, Ved Prakash who was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 bribe from the complainant.
Special Judge CBI RK Wattal, while rejecting the bail application, observed that keeping in view seriousness of crime and its compulsive nature when the complainant is also a police personnel who was not willing to give bribe but was alleged to have been harassed for extraction of bribe amount from him, it cannot at this stage be said that the accused has been falsely implicated in the case.
“The consideration that likelihood of hampering of the investigation and tampering of evidence by the accused whose statements have not been recorded, the public interest is definitely not going to be served if the individual right of the accused to bail is given precedence over the collective interest while striking the balance of interests in the case,” observed the court after hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi for the applicant and Special PP Manmohan Sharma for the CBI.
