CBI nabs CAPD clerk for taking Rs 22,500 bribe

JAMMU, Oct 21:  Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Junior Assistant/ Control Clerk, working in the office of Tehsil Supply Officer, in the department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs/CAPD, at Manjakote in district Rajouri for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 22,500 from a ration dealer.
Official sources said that a case was registered on a complaint against accused u/s 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) on the allegations that the accused demanded bribe of Rs 22,500 (30% of commission amount) for crediting carriage & commission amount of Rs 75,419 in the account of complainant’s father, a ration dealer in Manjakote, Rajouri for supply of food items under PDS.
After credit of the said amount, the accused was pressurizing the complainant, Wasim Raja and & his father, ration dealer Mohd Akram of Deri Lalyot, for payment of bribe.
On the basis of compliant, the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Control Clerk, Shadab Choudhary red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs.22500. Searches were conducted at the residential & official premises of the accused in Rajouri by the CBI team during raid.
The arrested accused is being produced today before the Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu.
Official sources further said that the concerned TSO, Wazir Hussain due to Covid patient, was on leave for the last over one week.
Junior Assistant, Shadab Choudhary was new appointee and remained posted in the office of Assistant Director, CAPD Rajouri for one year. He was now posted in the office of TSO, Manjakote for the last nearly two years. This official was demanding 30 % commission of the amount being released in favour of all the ration dealers of his area, on account of carriage & dealers’ commission.
