CBI takes up ‘Apna Ghar’ case

NEW DELHI, July 13:
The CBI has taken up investigation into  the allegations of sexual abuse and torture of the inmates of  the ‘Apna Ghar’ shelter home in Haryana’s Rohtak, which was run  by an NGO.
“The CBI has taken up investigation in Apna Ghar case of  Rohtak in Haryana. A team has been sent to the area,” probe  agency’s spokesperson Dharini Mishra said today.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on July 11 had given the  Centre a week’s time to decide on a CBI probe into the case.
The Haryana government had about a month ago recommended a  CBI probe into the allegations of sexual abuse and torture of  the inmates of the ‘Apna Ghar’.
Inmates of the Rohtak shelter home were allegedly subjected  to sexual abuse, physical and mental exploitation and used as  bonded labour.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Right had  rescued nearly 120 people, including children and women, from the house after carrying out a surprise raid on May 9. (UNI)
