CBK books woman for illegally drawing pension

Srinagar, Jan 1: The Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) today charge sheeted a woman for illegally drawing the pension of her mother even after her death.
In this regard, a charge sheet was produced in case FIR No. 14/2017 U/S 420-RPC, against the accused lady namely Firdousa W/o Farooq Ahmad Dar R/o Dalhasanyar Habakadal, Srinagar before the Court of Mobile Magistrate.
Detailing the case, CBK said that it received a complaint from CBI, alleging therein that Mst. Mukhta was receiving the Freedom Fighter Pension of her husband Mohammad Maqbool Wani @ Najar through A/C No. SB-156737 maintained in J&K Bank Branch Zaldagar Srinagar.
“The said lady being aged and weak authorized her daughter Firdousa through a Power of Attorney to receive her pension from the J&K Bank. The said Mukhta passed away on 18.12.2012, but her daughter continued to draw a pension on behalf of her deceased mother till 12/2014,” the CBK said.
It said that during the course of the investigation, it was established that the accused Firdousa, who was authorized by her mother to receive Freedom Fighter Pension on her behalf by virtue of Power of Attorney continued to draw pension after the death of her mother dishonestly and fraudulently.
“The accused despite having the knowledge has drawn on behalf of her deceased mother and has thereby deceived the authorities to confer wrongful gain of an amount of RS. 3.82 lacs upon herself against corresponding loss to the state Exchequer,” CBK said.
