CB’s SCW files charges against bank employee for embezzlement

JAMMU, Dec 30: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch Jammu has filed a charge sheet in an embezzlement case involving a bank employee, who allegedly misappropriated Rs 213.84 lakh meant for ATM cash deposits.
A Crime Branch official said that the bank had reported the theft, claiming an employee, Vinod Kumar, who was assigned to deposit cash into an ATM chest, embezzled the funds.
A case was accordingly registered at Police Station Domana against him under relevant sections of the law, he said.
Vinod Kumar, a resident of Quarter number 108, Janipur Colony, Jammu, and working at Thather Bantalab, was accused of criminal breach of trust and cheating his employer, the CB official said.
SSP SCW Jammu, Sanjay Parihar, informed that the case was initially investigated by the local police but was later handed over to the Crime Branch for a more detailed investigation.
He said Inspector Ashok Bazaz led the investigation, which concluded with the filing of the final charge sheet in the court of the Electricity Magistrate Jammu for judicial determination.
In addition to this case, three other similar cases of embezzlement, registered in Akhnoor, Bakshi Nagar, and Janipur police stations, were also transferred to the Crime Branch, he said.
Out of these, the SSP SCW Jammu said that two cases have already been charged.
In total, the amount involved across all these cases is approximately Rs 70 lakh, said the police officer.
