JAMMU, Nov 25: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch (CB) has filed a charge-sheet against a fraudster, who allegedly defrauded an army retiree of Rs 2 lakh on the pretext of providing job to his son in the force.
An SCW official said that the charge-sheet was presented against one Palwinder Singh, an ex-serviceman of Gurdaspur, Punjab, in the JMIC Court Jammu, in case FIR number 11/2023 registered under Section 420 IPC at Police Station SCW Jammu.
He said the case against Singh was investigated by DySP Anam Zahoor Manhas under the supervision of SSP Sanjay Parihar.
According to the SCW official, the case originated from a complaint lodged by an Army retiree, who alleged that Palwinder Singh, claiming to be an Army recruitment agent, promised to secure a job for the complainant’s son in the Army.
Asserting that his own son served in the Army and that he had strong connections, Singh convinced the complainant to pay Rs 2 lakh on December 13, 2019, he said.
He added that as a safeguard, Singh issued a cheque for the same amount, assuring that the money would be refunded if the recruitment failed.
However, the cheque bounced due to insufficient funds, exposing the fraudulent act, said the CB official.
After a detailed investigation, he said, the case was proven against Singh, leading to his production before the court and the submission of the chargesheet for judicial proceedings.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the Crime Branch has urged the public to remain cautious and avoid falling prey to such fraudulent schemes, emphasizing the importance of verifying offers before parting with hard-earned money.
