JAMMU, Sept 4:   Chamber of Commerce and Industries has expressed serious concern over the surveys and raids conducted by the Income Tax authorities in the business premises and residences of some reputed business houses doing their business for generations.
“The Chamber does not want to create hurdles in the smooth conduct of official duty of the Income Tax authorities but highly resents the way in which the surveys and raids were conducted”, said CCI president, YV Sharma, adding, the latest statistics issued by the Income Tax authorities confirmed our belief that Jammu is contributing considerably to the Government exchequer in the shape of advance tax and regular income tax but the Income Tax authorities instead of appreciating this gesture of the trading community were resorting to undue surveys and raids.
“The State is experiencing tension on the borders and infiltration is at its worst. Under such conditions, the Government should exercise restraint and try to generate confidence amongst people and seek the help of Chamber. It should not disturb the peace in the region and instead facilitate and encourage the trading community to obey the rule of law. If all this goes on, business community of the region will be compelled to come on streets”, Sharma said.
Earlier, on receiving information about surveys and raids being conducted in the premises and residences of reputed business houses, the CCI president along with the team of his office bearers, comprising senior vice -president, Sham Lal Langer, secretary general, Arun Gupta and secretary, Deepak Aggarwal, visited the premises of the traders and assured that Chamber solidly stands behind them and will ensure that no undue harassment was given to the assesses whose business premises were being surveyed and raided.
