JAMMU, Nov 4: Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed its strong objection over recent issuance of notices by the Commercial Tax Department to some prominent businessmen of Jammu province.
In this connection, a meeting of the office bearers of CCI Jammu and the prominent businessmen of Jammu was held today at Chamber House under the presidentship of Sham Lal Langer, senior vice-president CCI.
Arun Gupta, secretary general, informed the members that after a meeting under the Chairmanship of J A Khan, Financial Advisor to J&K Government and attended by B B Vyas, Principal Secretary, K H Rizvi, Commissioner Commercial Taxes and the representatives of Chamber of Commerce & Industry, a SRO 453 dated October 22, 2014 was issued by the Finance Department allowing the traders from whole J&K State to file their VAT returns of 2nd Quarters and the revised return for the first quarter 2014-2015 upto January 31, 2015. But unfortunately after the expiry of the 2nd quarter, on November 1, 2014 the Commercial Taxes Department issued notices to some traders from Jammu region asking them to deposit their VAT amount to avoid interest / penalty, which is totally against the spirit of the SROs issued by the Finance Department, he added.
Sham Lal Langer appealed the Commissioner Commercial Taxes Department to personally intervene in the matter as he was also present in the meeting wherein it was agreed that no trader will be harassed by the Commercial Taxes Department on this account because the money of the Jammu traders was also totally blocked.
Prominent among those present in the meeting, included Deepak Aggarwal, Jr vice president CCI, Rahul Mahajan, secretary CCI, Ashu Gupta, treasurer CCI, Surinder Mohan Gupta, Shiv Partap Gupta, Rakesh Gupta, Vipan Gupta, Jatinder Aggarwal and others.
