JAMMU, Mar 30: Expressing reservations over demand of VAT-65 form in advance by the transporters for booking the consignments, Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries has threatened stir if the issue is not resolved immediately.
A meeting of the office bearers of different market and trade associations and senior members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry was held today under the chairmanship of Y V Sharma, president CCI to discuss the burning issue of VAT 65 forms.
The traders rued that the transporters were refusing to book consignments of goods, unless provided VAT 65 forms in advance. The practice of providing VAT 65 forms on delivery of consignments has been in vogue since the VAT regime was introduced in 2005 and we fail to understand which authority has prevailed upon the transporters to ask for VAT 65 forms prior to booking of consignments from the place of origin, Y V Sharma said.
The traders attending this meeting were of the view that the VAT regime instead of being traders friendly was making things more complicated for the trading community, hence making it more difficult for the businessmen to do their business.
The members wanted to know from the Commercial Tax department whether any purpose was being served by insisting on VAT 65 forms and if it was in anyway helping in enhancing revenue collections.
The meet demanded that the Commissioner Commercial Taxes should invite representatives of Transporters and the business community at the earliest to resolve the issues pertaining to VAT 65 forms which is directly hitting the business community. If the issue is not resolved at the earliest, it will lead to non-availability of essential items and commodities of daily use, the CCI said.
