Srinagar, Nov 1: The authorities today said that the Chest Diseases (CD) Hospital will be shifted to GB Panth, Sonwar, which earlier housed the Children’s Hospital, in one week.
In this regard, the officials told Excelsior that as of now the concerned are clearing the remaining stuff which belongs to the Children’s Hospital which now has been shifted to the newly constructed 500-bedded paediatric hospital, Bemina.
“Within the next week, I think we shall be able to shift to the GB Panth Hospital, Sonwar as per the directions that have been issued by the Government and then the Principal, GMC Srinagar,” Dr. Saleem Tak, Medical Superintendent, CD Hospital said.
He said that most of the stuff of the Children’s Hospital has been shifted to Bemina and currently, the necessary works for making the shifting of the hospital possible are being executed. “We are hoping to do that within one week,” he said.
It is to be noted here that when the H&ME Department ordered the shifting of the Children’s Hospital from Sonwar to Bemina, it also directed the Principal, GMC Srinagar to chalk out an action plan for the shifting of the CD Hospital to GB Panth.
The officials said that the CD Hospital building at Dalgate will be used as an infectious disease hospital while the Tuberculosis division of the pulmonary and respiratory medicine department will also remain functional there.
“In the later stage, if there remains the necessary bed capacity, there is a plan for also setting up a drug de-addiction center at the CD’s Dalgate building which will be handled by the concerned department of the GMC, Srinagar,” Dr. Tak said.
Concerning the space provided to the CD hospital at Sonwar, Dr. Tak said that there is enough space available there and about further expansion of the services of CD Hospital there, the GMC, Srinagar as well as the concerned administrative department will take the call whenever they deem fit.
Pertinent to mention here that there were space constraints at the CD hospital’s Dalgate building which hampered the hospital’s plan for expansion even as the building has already been declared unsafe by the Fire & Emergency Department.
