JAMMU, Sept 22: In the background of Kishtwar riot and its fall-out in the Jammu region, Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation (CDR) organized two-days conference.
According to statement issued by Sushobha Barve, in the conference social activists, academicians, lawyers, industrialists, writers and others, drawn from Kishtwar, Doda, Bhaderwah, Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua and Jammu districts participated.
The deliberations were focused on ways and means required to be adopted to prevent any recurrence of communal incidents and strengthen the inter-community relations, she added.
The participants presented their views about the action plan needed at local levels to address issues and concerns. They condemned the incidents, which had happened on August 9 in Kishtwar and elsewhere. It was unanimously agreed that it was important to keep channels of communication open between communities at all times. It was emphasized that all efforts and steps should be taken towards this goal, she informed.
She added that the participants decided that they will organise themselves into a group called “Citizens Initiative for Peace (CIP)”. The group will act at regional as also district and block levels.
The conference demanded steps to rehabilitate the victims and give long term interest free loans to affected traders and shopkeepers, necessary steps to restore the confidence of the people in affected areas, action against the perpetrators of arson and violence under Law and report of the RC Gandhi Commission to be made public at the earliest.
