NEW DELHI, Sept 3: The Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Leh Rigzin Spalbar today called on Secretary, Union Ministry of Textiles, Sanjeev Kumar Panda and Joint Secretary Sunaina Tomar at Udyog Bhawan here.
He requested the Ministry for early release of funds under Pashmina Development Project that was already approved during the time of Zohra Chatterji, the then Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, under which components like testing labs, Common Facility Centres (CFC) for spinning of pashmina and promotion of small spinning machines to the nomads, additional de-haring plant, construction of building at de-haring plant, shelter for nomads were considered. The project of Rs. 30 crore has already been approved for the same.
Deliberating in detail about the immense potentiality of pashmina trade in Ladakh, CEC apprised that Pashmina Wool Development Schemes under IWIDP of Central Wool Development Board (CWDB) have proved very beneficial for Leh as this scheme in a very short period of time through its various assistance encouraged the migrated nomads of Changthang to go back to their homeland.
Advocating various promotional and developmental schemes under CWDB, CEC requested Sanjeev Kumar Panda for early release of the funds for value addition of pashmina products which will not only boost the economy of Changthang area, but the entire economy of Ladakh. Stressing further, he also updated them about the short span of working season in Ladakh and that pashmina is the only ultimate sustainable source of income of the people of Changthang region.
Listening patiently to CEC, the ministry gave the assurance that the funds will be released at the earliest so that the work can start accordingly.
