CEC, ECs inspect snow clearance operation on Kargil-Zanskar Road

KARGIL, Apr 12: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan along with the Executive Councilor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs Er Punchok Tashi and Executive Councillor for Works Aga Syed Abass Razvi inspected the status of snow clearance operations on the Kargil- Zanskar National Highway 301.
SDM Sankoo Ghulam Mohiuddin Wani, SDM Zanskar Sonam Dorjay, SE Mechanical Kargil Om Prakash, CMO Kargil Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Executive Engineer PWD Zanskar Murtaza Hyder Ali Khan, BMO Zanskar, SHO Zanskar besides other officers concerned were also present on the occasion.
The snow clearance team of Mechanical Division Kargil informed the CEC and the ECs that snow clearance on the highway has been cleared up to 158 km from Kargil side, has reached the 14000 feet Penzila Top near Statso Langtso and is just further 2 kilometers short to connect to the Zanskar side.
The CEC was further informed that 3 dozers, 1 JCB and 1 loader have been pressed into service from Kargil while as snow has been cleared through 2 dozers and 1 loader deployed from the Zanskar side.
Feroz Khan also distributed warm clothings like pants, warmers, gloves and sunglasses among the helpers and operators deployed for the snow clearance works.
Meanwhile, the CEC and the ECs also inquired about the preparation of the administration to deal with COVID-19 pandemic in Zanskar Sub Division in terms of the establishment of screening points, quarantine centres, availability of PPEs, masks, medicines and other related facilities.
The SDM Zanskar informed the CEC that all the necessary precautionary measures have already been put in place including the establishment of 20 bedded quarantine facility at Tourist Reception Center Padum and screening point at Akshow Bridge on the Kargil- Zanskar Road. He also said that all lockdown measures are in vogue.
Meanwhile, the Executive Councillor for Zanskar Affairs Er Phunsog Tashi donated an amount of Rs 50000/- out of his own pocket for preparation of face masks to be distributed among BPL families of Zanskar.
The CEC and his team assured the SDM that essential commodities like petroleum products, fresh vegetables and medicines etc shall be replenished in Zanskar soon.
