JAMMU, June 8: Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, Rigzin Spalbar today condemned the removal of Ladakh sector from the India’s Buddhist Tourism Circuit promotion by the NDA Government.
“It was the UPA Government, which included Ladakh in the India’s Buddhist Tourist Circuit duly recognizing our vast tourism potential and the removal of Ladakh from the circuit is a setback to our emergence as the most preferred tourist destination”, the CEC said, adding “this would also affect the development of essential tourist amenities in the region”.
Stating that continuous increase in the arrival of tourists year by year is testimony to the fact that Ladakh deserves a prominent place in the Tourist Buddhist Circuit of India, the CEC said, “the inconsiderate act of the Central Government is treacherous with the people of Ladakh”.
Meanwhile, the CEC called on Shailendra Kumar, Commissioner Secretary Tourism and stressed that the State Government should immediately take up with the Union Government for re-induction of Ladakh sector in India’s Buddhist Tourist Circuit as tourism in Ladakh is a major livelihood source for thousands.
Mr Spalbar also urged the Commissioner Secretary Tourism to take up the issue of affordable and adequate scheduled commercial air services to Leh with the Civil Aviation Ministry at the earliest. “LAHDC is continuously taking up the issue with Civil Aviation Ministry but instead of any progress it has become worse day by day”, he added.
