CEC Gyalson reviews progress of Project Tsangda

Leh, Aug 14: The Hon’ble Chairman/CEC LAHDC, Leh, Adv Tashi Gyalson convened a meeting to discuss the progress and the future plans of Project Tsangda in the Conference Hall of Council Secretariat today.

During the meeting, District Panchayat Officer (DPO), Junaid Amin Bhat provided a detailed powerpoint presentation outlining the implementation of Project Tsangda across Leh District. He provided an overview of the various infrastructure developments planned under the project, including the installation of bailing machines, shredders, composting machines and incinerators.

DPO Junaid further highlighted on the planned roadmap for the collection, segregation, and disposal of waste. He added that each block in the Leh district will have a temporary waste storage shed at village level, ensuring a decentralised approach to waste management.

He also underscored the need to clean the blackspot areas near Devachan and Agling Abi Canal. He stated that to address this issue, the installation of CCTV cameras, imposing penalties for illegal dumping , and the introduction of sponsored public bins can be proposed.

Furthermore, concerns related to equipment requirements at the SRMCs, Vehicle needs, and the identification of suitable dumping sites were also discussed. BDO, Leh, Samina Khatoon underscored the need for additional dustbins to enhance waste collection and segregation efforts.

Acknowledging the critical role of all the stakeholders in addressing the waste management challenges, CEC, Gyalson, proposed the development of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BRO, Airforce and Army and civil stakeholders. This partnership will initially be implemented in Hunder, Nubra and later replicate the same model to other parts in Leh.

The CEC emphasised that this model could serve as a national example wherein the army comes forward in contributing to waste management efforts.

In addition, the H’CEC suggested forming a similar MoU with Self Help Groups (SHGs) to manage smaller SRMCs, such as the one in Chuchot, empowering Local Communities in waste management.

Addressing concerns raised by the Coordinator, Project Tsangda, Tibetan Refugee,Tsultim Gyatso, on the issue faced by the Tibetan Community in managing waste, CEC, Gyalson assured the provision of a waste vehicle that will facilitate the transportation of waste to various dumping centres.
