CEC inaugurates ‘Among these Mountains’

LEH, July 9: Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh Rigzin Spalbar inaugurated ‘Among these Mountains’, a first of its kind painting exhibition of nine contemporary artists of Ladakh at Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation (LAMO) centre.
Impressed by the exhibited art work, CEC appreciated the work of the nine young Ladakhis for their talent and creativity. “It is never about dearth of talent among the Ladakhi youth but it’s only a matter of getting opportunities and platform to unearth their latent potentials,” said Spalbar. He expressed gladness over the youngsters for trying their hands in the field of contemporary which is very new in the region and gave assurance to support their aspirations in all possible ways. He also expressed gratitude to Monisha Ahmed, Executive Director, LAMO and her team for coming up with such novel initiative and providing the much needed platform to these budding artists.
“Contemporary art is very new in Ladakh and everyone is taking baby step,” said Monisha expressing the need to support art which is not taught in many schools here. She said that LAMO has been organising workshops with senior artists and school children.
Chemet Dorjey, one of the artists pursuing his MFA from Banaras Hindu University spoke about the 30 days art camp and expressed the need to encourage modern art with changing times in Ladakh.
CEC also gave away certificates to the artists; Tundup Dorjey Churpon, Tashi Namgail, Chemet Dorjey, Shujat Ali, Tsering Motup, Rigzin Paljor, Kunzes Zangmo, Skalzang Otsal and Isaac Gergan.
