LEH, Sept 24: Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar, today inaugurated a water supply scheme at Kharnakling under Swajaldhara Yojana.
Constructed at the cost of Rs 32 lakh, this water supply scheme will initially supply water to about 60% population of Kharnakling and later cover the entire area. Swajaldhara is a scheme under which Union Government provides 90% funds and rest 10% funding is to be borne by the villages as the property belongs to the villagers.
Responding to the demand of the people regarding handing over the commissioned water supply scheme to PHE Department for its smooth functioning, CEC directed Executive Engineer to study the norms of the schemes in detail and give feedback to him for finding some solution in this regard.
He urged the people of Changthang, who are settled at Leh, to give a second thought about going back to their native land and engage them-selves in the occupation of Pashmina production because Pashmina has a very high selling value and is one of the most lucrative businesses.
MLC Leh, Norboo Gyaltsion and area Councilor Sonam Tsering  also spoke on the occasion.
