KARGIL, June 19: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon, participated in a religious ceremony organized by the Buddhist community of Wakha, Mulbekh.
The event was graced by His Holiness Skyabgong Chaychang Rinpoche and attended by Member of Parliament for Ladakh, Mohammed Hanifa Jan; Executive Councillor Punchock Tashi; Counsellor Shargole Constituency Mohammed Javed; monks, nuns from various Gompas, devotees, cultural artists and local residents.
In his address, CEC Akhoon thanked the organizing committee for the invitation and emphasized the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on peace and brotherhood, highlighting Kargil as a model of communal harmony.
He reminisced about his interactions with the Dalai Lama during his medical career and expressed his gratitude for the blessings received.
Akhoon announced plans for an extensive tour of Wakha, Mulbekh, and other villages with district officers to address local grievances and development issues.
He commended the efforts of cultural artists in preserving their heritage and pledged Rs 3 lakh for the purchase of cultural instruments, to be provided through the Cultural Academy Kargil.
MP Mohammed Hanifa Jan also expressed his gratitude to the organizing committee and Skyabgong Chaychang Rinpoche.
He praised Kargil’s harmonious community and stressed the importance of adhering to the Dalai Lama’s teachings for the region’s development.
Jan highlighted the recent peaceful Lok Sabha elections as a testament to Kargil’s communal harmony and pledged to address regional issues during his extensive tour of Ladakh.
The ceremony underscored the region’s commitment to peace, cultural preservation, and communal harmony, reinforcing the collaborative spirit necessary for Ladakh’s development.
