KARGIL, June 20: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) Kargil Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan today called for carrying out necessary measures to assess the extent of damage to crops, trees and agricultural fields in view of water scarcity due to scant snowfall in the district during the winter season.
The CEC stated this while chairing a meeting convened to discuss the ways and means to deal with this situation and for taking measures to give relief to the farmers.
Executive Councilor for Education Advocate Muhammad Amir, Executive Councilor for Rural Development Aga Syed Hassan Armaan Mosavi, Executive Councillor for Agriculture Muhammad Hussain, Executive Councillor for Zanskar Affairs Tenzin Sonam, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Vikas Kundal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Imteeaz Kacho, SDM Drass Pawan Kotwal, SDM Shakar Chiktan Ghulam Mehdi, SDM Zanskar Rakesh Sharma, Executive Engineers of different divisions, officers of Revenue and Forest Departments besides other concerned officers attended the meeting.
The CEC directed for constituting teams headed by the SDMs concerned and comprising the officials of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forest and other line departments to assess the effects of water scarcity and damages thereof and submit reports to the Hill Council so that the same is submitted to the Government.
The infestation of locust at a certain area at Kurbathang plateau and Zanskar Sub Division also came up for discussion. The officers of Agriculture Department informed the CEC that locust infestation is just in the emergent stage and measures like spraying of chemicals are underway to ensure timely control adding men and machinery have been kept in full readiness to deal with any kind of situation.
The CEC also directed the Executive Engineer I&FC to keep the provision of the sufficient number of pipes for irrigation purposes in areas affected by water scarcity.
