CEC lays foundation stone of Agricultural Research Centre

LEH, Aug 19: Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) of LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar laid the foundation stone of Regional Agricultural Research Centre to be established on 410 kanals of land at Stakna by Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Jodhpur.
Speaking on the occasion, CEC said, “setting up of research center will catapult the dream of sustainable development which is one of the major objectives of the Council in 12th Five Year Plan”, adding “the land allotment for this center has dual purpose, one to provide benefit to farmers by making them available more productive and remunerative cash crop through this research center and secondly, youth will get diverted from traditional agricultural occupation to scientific one”.
“This research center will also help in capacity building of officers, scientists and farmers for better performance and increased capability. This research center should be not only a learning center but also prove productive and beneficial for the locals”, he said.
Director General, Central Arid Zone Research Institute Jodhpur, Dr S Appayan said, “until now mostly in hot arid zones such researches have taken place, although cold arid zones have bigger potential”.
“We have stepped into Ladakh with global experience. Our main aim is to adapt Central Asian successful research programmes and not going for a new experiment. Adaptation will prevent farmers waiting for long and get them the benefit soon”, he said.
Among others, Central Arid Zone Research Institute Jodhpur Dy Director General Dr A K Singh, Director M M Roy and their team of Scientists, EC Agriculture Sonam Dorjey, EC Health Dr Sonam Angchuk, EC Tourism Gurmet Dorjey, Agriculture and Horticulture officers, scientists from DIHAR and officers of SKUAST were present on the occasion.
