CEC Leh meets HM Amit Shah, discusses key issues of Ladakh

LEH, Mar 18: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the presence of BJP National general secretary and Ladakh Prabhari Tarun Chugh to deliberate on crucial issues pertaining to Ladakh.
During the meeting, CEC Leh highlighted the budget curtailment and urged the Home Minister to enhance LAHDC’s allocation, either in the Budget Estimates or the Revised Estimates (RE). He also stressed the importance of initiating the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, which holds immense cultural and spiritual significance for the region, besides its potential to boost tourism and local livelihoods.
Advocate Gyalson sought support for the approval of strategically important tunnels, including Fotu-La, Taglangla, Baralacha La, Singay La, and Khardong La. He also pressed for the timely resolution of other pressing regional concerns and requested the inauguration of completed projects in the Union Territory to further Ladakh’s developmental agenda.
Expressing gratitude to the Centre, CEC Leh welcomed the resolution of long-pending issues of Daily Rated Workers (DRWs) under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He informed the Home Minister that a UT-level committee has also been constituted to address concerns of daily wagers who are yet to receive benefits.
Acknowledging the special financial support extended by the Centre since Ladakh became a Union Territory, he credited it for the successful implementation of major projects, including the promotion of border tourism and the opening of new destinations such as Demchok, Siachen Base, Martsemik La, Hanley Dark Sky Reserve and Galwan Valley.
He also underscored the Centre’s support in sports infrastructure development, such as an international-standard ice hockey rink, football stadium, and indoor stadium, while promoting sports through the Khelo India initiative.
Additionally, CEC Leh highlighted transformative projects, including the Zojila Tunnel, Shinkun La Tunnel, Leh Airport Terminal Extension, and key road widening projects. He further noted that Ladakh has witnessed unprecedented progress with the creation of five new districts, strengthening its administrative and developmental framework, ensuring sustainable growth and connectivity across the region.
