LEH, Apr 7: To review the supply and distribution of essential commodities in Leh district amidst lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal convened a meeting of Executive Councillors of LAHDC, Leh with Divisional Commissioner/Secretary Food Supplies Ladakh Saugat Biswas and Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC, Leh Sachin Kumar at Council Secretariat, here today.
Biswas briefed CEC that at present UT Administration is airlifting essential commodities including fresh vegetables in tons on daily basis in Indian Air Force flights from Delhi/Chandigarh and assured that as per the requirements airlifting of essential supplies will continue to meet the demands of public during lockdown period.
Regarding distribution of essential supplies in the district, CEC Wangyal stressed on giving priority to far-off villages of the district in distributing essential goods for sale ensuring equitable distribution on fixed rates with no scope of hording.
CEC Wangyal said that besides stocking of essential commodities for Leh district, the timely stocking of construction materials through contractors is also important to carry developmental works keeping in mind the short working season in the district and discussed about opening of Srinagar -Leh road for trucks in controlled way for stocking of essential goods and construction materials initially.
The meeting also discussed about the nature of important works in the district including flood protection bunds which need timely tendering so that works could be executed timely when situation gets normal.
Regarding relaxation to carry agriculture works in view of the sowing season in the district, Divisional Commissioner Ladakh and DC Leh assured that farmers will not face any difficulties to practice their agriculture works.
Prominent among others the meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman LAHDC, Leh Tsering Sandup, Executive Counicllor for Agriculture Phuchok Stanzin and Executive Councillor for Education Konchok Stanzin.
