CEC takes stock of public distribution system

KARGIL, Apr 3: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan took stock of the public distribution system in the district in wake of the prevailing situation arising out of the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent national lockdown during a meeting of the members of the Executive Council and officers concerned here today.
Executive Councilor for Social Welfare Aga Syed Mujtaba Mosavi, Executive Councillor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs Er Phunsog Tashi, Executive Councillor for Health Muhammad Ali Chandan, Project Officer Wages Employment (ACD) Kargil Ghulam Muhammad and Assistant Director FCS&CA Ruth Mary besides the President Merchants Association Kargil attended the meeting.
The Assistant Director FCS&CA informed the meeting that ration distribution as of date stands 95 per cent completed for the month of April, 2020 and the remaining quota will be completed by the 5th of April, 2020.
The meeting also discussed the impact of lockdown on the public distribution system and the ways and means being adopted presently to ensure hassle free distribution and delivery of ration commodities at people doorsteps. The officers concerned informed that people from rural areas who are stranded in the town and adjoining areas can have ration on payment basis from the PDS Depots at Kargil and Baroo.
Meanwhile, the EC Health asked the AD FCS&CA to chalk out a mechanism to deliver ration to residents of Sapi currently residing at Minji besides timely delivery of ration at Sapi Village.
The EC Social Welfare raised the point of delivery of LPG cylinders and asked the AD FCS&CA to ensure the same and submit report to the office of the CEC, Kargil.
Later, in a separate meeting of the Executive Council, the health scenario in the district in wake of COVID-19 outbreak was discussed thoroughly. The issue with regard to the evacuation of students and other residents of Kargil from different parts of the country also came up for discussion and it was decided that the District Administration would be asked to take up the matter with the UT administration.
District Administration was asked to allow the farmers to plough their fields well in time so as to avoid shortage of traditional produce from the farms.
