LEH/KARGIL, Jan 27: The Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervor across Ladakh region.
In Leh, the main function was held at Polo Ground where the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar unfurled the Tricolour and took salute at the march past in which contingents of J&K Police, J&K Armed Police, Para-military, NCC and school children participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Spalbar stressed on serving the mother land and contributing in the development and prosperity of the nation.
Colourful Cultural programmes were also presented by students of educational institutions and the artists of Information Department, and Cultural Academy.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Councillors of LAHDC Leh, Acting Deputy Commissioner Leh, Ghulam Hassan Khan, senior Civil, Army and Police officers.
Republic Day was also celebrated at all Sub Divisions, Tehsil, Block and Naibat headquarters of Leh district where despite severe cold large number of people attended the functions.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor(CEC), LAHDC, Haji Asgar Ali Karbalaie hoisted the National Flag at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Biamathang and took salute at an impressive march past comprising contingents of J&K Police, NCC, Army, Civil Band Party and students of Government and private schools.
Thousands of people from the adjoining villages of Kargil had gathered at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Biamathang to watch the parade.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEC said that democracy is the tool which makes people the most powerful in the system and termed people as source of power of democracy. He recalled the sacrifices of great leaders for making the country republic and democratic. He also said that progress and development shall be prioritized in the Kargil district.
Karbalaie urged upon the youth of Kargil to make the best use of their potential for the progress of the district and thereby bringing laurels to the district and the state. He assured that the present Council shall make all possible efforts to ensure peace, prosperity and well being of the common people in the district.
Republic Day was also celebrated at Drass, Sankoo, Chiktan, Zanskar and Shargole in the district. Cultural programmes were also presented on the occasion.
Prominent among present on the occasion, included Councillors of LAHDC Kargil, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Mohammad Sadiq Sheikh, senior Civil, Army and Police officers.
