JAMMU, Sept 9: As part of commemorative 1965 war golden jubilee celebrations, number of events have been planned by Headquarters Northern Command to be conducted at various locations in Command Zone where some of the fiercest battles were fought.
The events will start on September 10, 2015 at Srinagar with conduct of a seminar on “Battle of Hajipir”. Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha, Ex-Governor of J&K and a veteran of 1965 war, will deliver the key note address and highlight the capture of strategically important Hajipir pass but also eight kilometre of PoK territory by Indian Army. Besides Gen Sinha, the seminar will be attended by number of serving officers and veterans who participated in 1965 war.
This will be followed by conduct of two adventure activities involving an expedition covering approximately 300 km by a team of the Para Motors and Car Rally covering a distance of approximately 1700 km on September 12 from Udhampur. The car rally will criss-cross between areas along the border through one of the most treacherous motorable stretches in the country where important battles were fought.
Events to pay tribute to martyrs of the War will be held at memorials located at Srinagar, Uri, Poonch, Rajouri, Akhnoor and Nagrota in Jammu & Kashmir and Ambala before culmination at New Delhi on September 18, 2015.
In a unique initiative, the car rally for the first time will witness participation by veterans who have volunteered to be part of the celebrations. In all there will be twenty two participants with eight vehicles which include eight veterans in their private vehicles. The Para Motor expedition will take off from Udhampur for Nagrota and will terminate at Rakhmuthi (Jammu) on September 13 after undertaking low level flying over two days, involving cross country map of the earth flying.
The adventure activities are being conducted to pay homage and memorialize the heroes of the nation, who had made the supreme sacrifice during the Indo-Pak war of 1965. During the course of conduct an endeavour will be made to make people of Jammu and Kashmir aware of the astounding victory of Indian Army, generate awareness, foster a spirit of adventure, team work and camaraderie.
