JAMMU, Oct 2: The celebrations of Wildlife Week commenced at Jasrota Wildlife sanctuary in district Kathua and at Nature Interpretation Center of Dachigam National Park.
The wildlife week observance kick started by the Department of Wildlife Protection in Jammu region from Jasrota Wildlife sanctuary in Kathua district under the guidance of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests /Chief Wildlife Warden J&K Ravi Kumar Kesar.
A number of school children along with their teachers and wildlife field staff participated in Nature Walk in Jasrota Wildlife Sanctuary.
The school children were taken from the schools located adjoining the Sanctuary. The field staff led by Sunil Singh Wildlife Warden Kathua and Range Officer Jasrota Bishamber Singh conducted the Nature Tour and educated the children about the wildlife and Jasrota Wildlife Sanctuary.
Later, the students, teachers, staff and locals from adjoining area participated in an impressive symposium function held in the premises of Jasrota Wildlife Training Centre. School children spoke about the wildlife conservation and importance of protecting local flora and fauna.
Regional Wildlife Warden Jammu Region Tahir Shawl addressed the gathering.
Those who spoke on the occasion and interacted with the children included Vinay Khajuria, Wildlife Warden Jambu Zoo, Parvez Shagoo, Wildlife enthusiast and birder, Rajinder Singh, Lecturer HSS Forelian Jasrota and Karan Singh , Ex-Servicemen.
The school children were further taken for a bird watching trip in the premises of the training centre and given tips on bird watching.
In symposium, first prize was bagged by Siya Sharma of Government HSS Forelain), while second and third prizes were clinched by Ritik Kumar of Government Middle School Jasrota and Abhishek of Government Middle School Amla, Jasrota respectively.
All the school children who participated in the function were given prizes for their encouragement along with notebooks and colour posters depicting the wildlife of Jammu Region.
Meanwhile, the celebrations of Wildlife Week commenced here at Nature Interpretation Center of Dachigam National Park being organized by the Central Wildlife Division, Department of Wildlife Protection.
During the week, various programmes will be organized to educate the students in particular and the public in general about the importance of wildlife, flora and fauna and importance of forests.
An inter-school debate with the theme “Role of youth in Wildlife Conservation” and a painting competition was held in which 120 students of various schools took part.
Chief Guest Regional Wildlife Warden, Kashmir, Rashid Yahya Naqash, Executive Director, WCF Nadeem Qadri, teachers from the participating schools and locals were present on the occasion.
