KARGIL, Oct 21: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Srinagar Bench held its inaugural two-day circuit sitting at the TFC, Baroo, Kargil, marking a significant step toward localizing the redressal of service matters and bringing justice closer to the people.
The Division Bench of CAT, comprising Judicial Member Mir Syed Latif and Administrative Member Prasant Kumar, conducted the circuit sitting in a hybrid mode, allowing cases to be heard both physically and virtually, enhancing accessibility for local residents.
The opening session was attended by a host of dignitaries, including CAT Srinagar Bench members MS Latif and Prasant Kumar; Chairman/ CEC, LAHDC Kargil, Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon; Deputy Commissioner /CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; Secretary Law and Justice Shashi Kant Bhagat; CJM District Court Kargil, Wangial Tsering; ASP Kargil, Mujeeeb Ur Rehman; DSGI Tahir Majid Shamshi; Munsiffs from Sankoo, Zanskar, and Drass; and the President of the Kargil District Bar Association, Reyaz Ahmad Khan, along with legal assistants and other officials.
In his inaugural speech, CEC Dr Mohammad Jaffer Akhoon described the circuit sitting as a “historic moment” for the people of Kargil, emphasizing its potential to deliver timely justice at their doorstep.
He underscored the importance of ensuring equal access to justice for all citizens in a civilized society.
Judicial Member MS Latif expressed gratitude to all involved in establishing the CAT Bench in Kargil, stating the initiative would help resolve service-related grievances efficiently.
“The lamp should always remain lit,” he said, symbolizing the continuous commitment to service delivery.
He also assured that cases would be resolved expeditiously and encouraged suggestions for further improvements.
Secretary Law and Justice Shashi Kant Bhagat welcomed the guests, while Deputy Commissioner Shrikant Suse delivered the vote of thanks.
Administrative Member Prasant Kumar and DSGI Tahir Majid Shamshi also addressed the gathering.
Over the course of the first day, 37 cases were listed before the Bench, with 1 TA (2008), 3 OAs, 1 CP, and 7 MAs successfully disposed off. Another 50 cases are scheduled for hearing on October 22, 2024 (Day 2).
