JAMMU, May 12: General Insurance Employees Union, (GIEU) has appealed to all the citizens to take the policies from public sector General Insurance Companies only and help to strengthen Indian economy for the development of the country.
In a statement issued here, today on the eve of General insurance Companies (GICs) Nationalization Day, the Union general secretary, Dileep Kaul said the public sector insurance companies are in forefront in settlement of claims whenever catastrophe losses occurred due to cyclone, floods and earth quake. The Public Sector General Insurance companies  are opening the offices even in tier Vi cities for a population of less than four thousand to reach the villages and rural areas for providing services where the 23 private general insurance companies are not even having a single office.
He said four PSGUI companies are having 8120 offices throughout the country out of which 1455 are in tier 4,5, & 6 cities.
He said the 23 private companies are having 1742 offices only out of which 1706 offices are in tier one city only and 36 offices in tier II, III & IV cities. During the year 2014-15 private companies have closed down 237 offices in the tier II & III cities. Ignoring all these positive and pro welfare activities of the public sector, Central Government is pushing forward many reforms to weaken the public sector.
He demanded that the Central Government should change its direction in this regard and strengthen the public sector.
