JAMMU, Sept 3: Central University of Jammu celebrated its Foundation Day by organizing an impressive and colourful function, here today.
Despite inclement weather, myriad hues of culture were showcased during the celebration at the Temporary Academic Block of the CUJ in Sainik Colony. Student-artists, clad in peculiar costumes and bedecked with ornaments, presented glorious and rich cultural heritage of J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Southern States. A skit on the social evil of female feticide was also presented.
Inaugurating the celebrations, the chief guest, Prof Devanand, Vice-Chancellor of CUJ, said that apart from celebrations, which are extremely important to express your joy and happiness, Foundation Day is a day for introspection, taking pledge to set higher targets of teaching, research and outreach activities. “Students must work hard to succeed in national and international competitive examinations. They, besides studying their regular course curricula, must train themselves in communication skills and personality development,” he said and announced that soon the University will set up a vibrant Placement Cell.
Earlier, Prof Deepak Raj Gupta, Dean Management Studies and Head, Travel and Tour Management, CUJ, presented a formal welcome address.
The founder members of the University, including the Senior Consultant, Dr P S Pathania and Academic Coordinator, Prof Sham Singh also expressed their views about the functioning of the University.
Prof N R Sharma, Dean Students Welfare, who was the chief organizer of the event and man behind the show, extended the formal vote of thanks.
Dr Ritu Bakshi, Assistant Professor of the Department of Educational Studies, CUJ conducted the stage.
