NEW DELHI: The Centre today asked the Jammu and Kashmir Government to ensure security of banks, ATMs and cash carrying vans in the wake of the day-light robbery of a bank in the state.
In a communication, the Home Ministry asked the Jammu and Kashmir to provide security to banks – both in urban and rural areas – which have seen rush in the wake of demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes.
Adequate security should be provided to cash carrying vans and ATMs, the Home Ministry conveyed, official sources said.
Security officials suspect that some of the sleeper cells had helped the terrorists to loot a bank in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district where terrorists decamped with nearly Rs 13 lakh cash yesterday.
The Home Ministry also asked the state government to send a detailed report about the bank loot, sources said. (AGENCIES)
