Centre is keen for improved health facilities in Bengal: Azad

KOLKATA, Dec 4: Union minister for health Ghulam Nabi Azad today said the Centre would extend cooperation and financial support to the West Bengal government for improvement of health facility and fight Aids in the state.
He told reporters that an extension of the Chittraranjan Cancer
Hospital in south Kolkata would come up in new township of Rajarhat with a cost of Rs 540 crore,and city’s oldest Medical College and Hospital in central Kolkat will also have three super specialty departments in new buildings.
He said there are many health projects for the state in the pipelines which will be sorted out after his meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee this evening.
He said a hospital would be set up in the state for treatment of the Aids patients.
Mr Jha after landing in the city went to Rajarhat to see the areas where the extension of the state owned Chittranjan Cancer Hospital would come up at a cost of about Rs 540 crore.
He also visited the city’s premier Medical College and Hospital at College Street for expansion projects with Rs 120 crore.
In Medical College and Hospital premises three more new buildings would come up with updated technology for specialized treatment facilities.
Mr Azad said he will have meeting with the chief minster at 1730 hours in Nabanna to sort out the issues of the medical advancement requirement projects in the state.
However, there had been disputes between the state ruling Trinamool Congress and Congress MP Deepa Dasmumshi about the location of setting up the AIDS hospital.
While the government wants the AIDS hospital should come up either at Kharagpur or in Kalyani, but the Congress MP insisting the first AIDS hospital should be set up her constituency in Raigunje. (UNI)
