JAMMU, Apr 20: Union Ministry for Surface Transport and Highways headed by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari has released Rs 500 crores for Jammu and Kashmir under the Central Road Fund (CRF), exclusively for construction of the bridges.
This was stated by Public Works Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri here during a meeting to review progress of projects being executed by Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC).
Official sources said the release of Rs 500 crores for construction of bridges in Jammu and Kashmir will go long way in building infrastructure in the State.
Veeri directed the Managing Director JKPCC and the Chief Engineers R&B to ascertain the requirements in urban, rural and far flung areas and prepare DPRs within week’s time for its onward submission to the Union Ministry for Surface Transport and Highways.
He emphasized that the construction of bridges recently taken up under State plan and not covered by any designated funding scheme should also be covered under CRF so as to ensure its completion within two years time.
While giving the details of activities of the Corporation, MD JKPCC Dalip Thusoo informed the Minister that presently 271 schemes are being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 2573.88 crore. He further said that work is in progress on 26 bridges, which were expected to be completed during the end of current financial year.
Veeri stressed upon the engineers to redouble their efforts for timely completion of all ongoing projects for providing better amenities to the people.
