JAMMU, Nov 22: Claiming that the Union Government’s decision of withdrawing cases of first timer stone pelters was outcome of PDP’s suggestion in this regard, the party’s general secretary Ved Mahajan today said such Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) would send a very positive message in the State in general and Valley in particular.
In a statement issued here today, Mahajan said during interaction of the PDP delegation with Centre’s special representative Dineshwar Sharma, this issue was taken up before him. He said that PDP delegation had suggested Sharma to consider cases of first timer stone pelters on humanitarian ground.
He claimed that it was result of PDP’s suggestions that Centre has decided to drop over 4,500 cases against youth involved in stone-throwing for the first time- in a bid to win hearts in the Kashmir valley.
Over 11,500 cases against stone-throwers have been registered since July last year when unrest broke out in Kashmir following the death of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani in an encounter. Out of these, over 4,500 cases were registered against the youth who were found indulging in stone-throwing for the first time.
