SRINAGAR: The Union Government is yet to release funds under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) for the current financial year to Jammu and Kashmir, where out of 68964 applications received for construction of individual house hold toilets, 39987 have been verified and 28870 approved.
This information was given by Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, who also holds the portfolio of Housing and Urban Development to a question by Sat Pal Sharma in the Legislative Assembly.
He said during the current financial year, there is an earmarked allocation of Rs 25.30 crore for various components of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).
However, no funds have been released by the Ministry of Union Development, GoI till date, Dr Singh said in the reply.
SBM was launched by the Prime Minister on October 2, 2014 in the country with the objective of achieving the complete cleanliness by 2019. The components of the mission are House Hold Toilets (HHT), Community Toilets (CT), Public Toilets (PT), Solid Waste Management (SWM), Information Education Communication (IEC) and Public Awareness and Capacity Building and Administrative & Office Expenses (A&OE) .
The reply said that there was a target of construction 94091 of individual HHTs, CTs and PTs under SMB (Urban).
The department received 68964 applications out of which 39987 have been verified, the reply said adding 28870 applications have been approved.
About CTs and PTs, the Deputy Chief Minister said there was a target of 2078 seats in the cities and towns. However, only 155 seats have been completed in 31 complexes while 11 complexes are under progress and land for 50 complexes have been identified.
The reply said that for successful implementation of the mission in the state, the department has taken a number of initiates including an extensive awareness programme was has been initiated tomaintain hygiene in the area and also ensure sustainability of cleanliness. Strict directions were issued against non-littering which would invite penal action in future, he warned.
He said for beautification of Urban Towns especially in the capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu, different walls were got painted, depicting Rich Art Culture Hertiage under the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan (SBA).
To address the menace of huge amount of Solid Waste (SW) generated and the difficulties in its disposal, projects are being formulated for SW management. The project involves 100 per cent collection of Municipal Solid waste and its transportation to the scientific landfill, segregation, converting organic waste to compost energy and reduce driven and further producing compost, the reply said.
However, no funds were released by the GoI for the current financial year so far, he said.
