JAMMU, Nov 20: Since the announcement of Assembly elections and imposition of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in the State, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K has received 147 complaints of different natures from various political parties pertaining to various violations. Some complaints were received through Election Commission of India (ECI) and some at the level of CEO itself.
Out of these, 52 complaints have been disposed off and 95 have been referred to various quarters for conducting enquiry and ascertaining the details. Till date, no complaint of serious nature has been received by the CEO. However, all the complaints received from various quarters are monitored minutely and disposed off as per the guidelines of the ECI in a transparent manner.
In order to prevent the MCC violations in the State, the CEO has taken several measures and put up a systematic mechanism. A close vigil is being maintained by the flying squads constituted by the DEOs in the entire district. These flying squad teams have so far confiscated 1305 CGI sheets, 65100 banners/posters and cash of over Rs. 51 lakh from different people, which are reported to have been meant for using during the election by illegal means to lure the voters.
Besides, the police have set up 5769 Nakas at different points, mainly along the boundaries of different districts to prevent the entry of unscrupulous elements, which can possibly create trouble during the election process. As many as 1297 cases have been put up under preventive Section of CR. PC, 880 persons bound over and 1721 persons bound down by the authorities. As many as 157 non-bailable warrants have been executed against the suspected elements also.
The concerned authorities have also identified 139 hamlets as vulnerable, 193 persons as probable source of trouble and preventive action has been taken against 7 persons, 6419 gun licenses have been got deposited by the holders, till date.
