CEO reviews measures for disaster management

JAMMU, June 16: In order to review the preparedness of men and machinery to efficiently deal with natural disasters especially during the ensuing monsoon season, Chief Executive Officer District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Arun Manhas convened a meeting of officers of all concerned departments here today.
During the meeting, the CEO was apprised of the disaster prone areas of the district and the measures being taken to alert, mitigate and save precious lives during natural calamities. The senior officers were asked to chalk out effective strategies to combat the situation arising due to natural disasters.
The CEO directed the SDMs to ensure that the schools under their jurisdiction must conduct mock drills in the campuses so that the students can save themselves during natural disasters.
“Every department will have its own Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and inventory to deal with these disasters which would be uploaded on their official websites idrn.gov.in,” the CEO said, adding that a Liaison Officer would be deputed for close coordination among various stakeholders at the time of emergency.
The CEO directed the concerned officers to identify the places to be utilized for accommodating the rescued people. He also asked for providing all basic facilities at these places including medical, drinking water, sanitation and power supply.
Similar directions were given to all the concerned departments so that proper mechanism would be put in place to deal with any emergency.
Among others, SDM South Jammu, Sonu Pargal, SDM Khour Devinder Paul, SDM Akhnoor Sunaina Sharma, SDM Marh Ved Parkash, SDM Chouki Choura Gurmukh Singh, SSP CO SDRF Stanzin Norboo, Deputy Director Fire Emergency Jammu AK Wangoo, Secretary JDA Vinay Samotra and concerned senior officers were present in the meeting.
