KATHUA, Jan 30: Chief Electoral Officer J&K, Shantmanu visited Kathua and chaired a meeting of officers at DC Office Complex today.
Stressing on the need to put in concerted efforts by the concerned officers, CEO asked ADDC Kathua to further direct all the EROs to involve men and machinery so that no eligible voter is left out from the electoral roll.
Mr. Shantmanu also said that the Kathua district is having one of the largest expanse comprising one Municipal Council ( Kathua City )and five municipal committees viz Basohli, Billawar, Hiranagar, Lakhanpur and Nagri so there is the need to take up the exercise of ward wise segregation of electoral areas to avoid any confusion and error. He also stressed for timely completion of addition, deletion and correction process besides improving electoral sex ratio of the district.
He said the state will undergo Panchayat elections after the elections of Urban Local Bodies which will be an extensive exercise. He disclosed that state has collaborated with partner NGO ‘Art of Living’ to educate people under electoral education programme besides SVEEP activities.
State Coordinator for YLTP Arunima Sinha of Art of Living while speaking about the activities of electoral education said that NGO has taken up the task of sensitizing people about their right in other parts of the country successfully which has shown positive results. She said that the ‘Art of Living’ is quite optimistic to work in the state and to help in awakening the voters about the essence of participation in the voting process.
The officers including CMO, DFO, XEn PWD Kathua, DSWO, DYSSO, PO ICDS, Tehsildar and Tehsildar (HQ) were also present in the meeting.
