CGPWA celebrates 33rd National Pensioners’ Day

JAMMU, Dec 17: Central Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association (CGPWA), J&K representing the pensioners of 33 Central Government departments/ Ministries including All India Services viz IAS, IPS and IFS celebrated 33rd National Pensioners’ Day at Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM here today.
Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director, IIIM Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion. The function was attended by a large number of Association Members and special invitees from various Organizations of State Government pensioners, besides eminent social activists.
JK Vaid, General Secretary, CGPWA conducted the proceedings of the function and also briefed the house on 7 CPC recommendations, Pensioners’ Portal under National e-Governance Plan and latest important OMs issued by Government of India in respect of pensioners.
SS Wazir, President, CGPWA, presented the welcome address and highlighted the salient features of the Association along with its future plans and a brief background of the Pensioners’ Day which was first celebrated in the country on December 17, 1983 to commemorate the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court on December 17, 1982 in DS Nakara vs Union of India case that pension came as a matter of right to the retiree.
He also talked about SANKALP programme launched by Department of Pension and Pensioner’s Welfare under which pensioners’ experience and expertise will be utilized for voluntary service to the society.
VP Sharma, Patron and noted Geologist and Environmentalist delivered an impressive power point presentation on Traditional Health Care System. His presentation detailed useful tips for maintaining good health and healthy life style.
Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director, IIIM Jammu in his address also highlighted the activities of IIIM in service of the nation and delved on the key role played by Sir Col Ram Nath Chopra in establishing a Premier Research Institutes in the country including Regional Research Laboratories and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Son of the soil, Sir Col Chopra is considered Father of Indian Pharmacology and cloven of science and medicine, he added.
