JAMMU, Dec 31: Continuing with its initiative, the Central Govt Pensioners’ Welfare Association, Jammu (CGPWA) held an interactive session with inmates of the BALGRAN, Home for destitute children.
The General Secretary of CGPWA, K B Jandial took the session in the presence of the President of BALGRAN V K Raina, and Prof R D Sharma, former Vice Chancellor of Jammu University.
A lecture on Water Resources and Environmental Issues was delivered by another member, Upender Pachnanda, former Additional Principal Chief Conservation of Forests.
The freewheeling 90-minute interactive session revolved around Indian value system, traditions, customs and under threat morality in the society. Views were solicited from the students on how to become a good student and subsequently the responsible citizen of India. The students were explained that diversity is one of the factors that provides India a special place. The students were also told that morality plays a vital role in shaping the fabric of any society.
Jandial also talked about eleven Fundamental Duties enshrined in the Constitution which every citizen of India is required to perform. These include abiding the Constitution, respecting the National Flag & National Anthem, following ideals of the freedom struggle, protecting sovereignty & integrity of India. To give importance to the fundamental duties and create awareness, 6th January has been declared as ‘Fundamental Duties Day’, he added.
Earlier, Pachnanda delivered an impressive lecture on Water Resources and Environment. He dwelt with different aspects of conservation of water and water resources and the need for public awareness against wastage of water. Rainwater harvesting is another technology to improve availability of groundwater. Similarly, there is a need for increasing forest cover, planting trees in open areas and even in houses to improve the environment, he explained.
