KARGIL, June 14: Chairperson, National Commission for Women, Rekha Sharma today visited Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh and delivered a lecture on the rights of women and the role of NCW in the empowerment of women in India.
During the occasion, she said the Commission monitors all matters related to constitutional and legal safeguards for women and informed about its mandate.
She said that major cells of the commission established across India monitor complaints, investigation, policy monitoring, women’s safety, welfare and empowerment of women.
The Chairperson said a 24/7 women’s helpline was launched in July 2021 that aims to provide online support to women in distress through referral by linking them with appropriate authorities such as Police, Hospitals, District Legal Services Authority and Counselors.
She also threw light on policy monitoring and research cell, gender justice and gender-based violence, digital literacy and implementation of PM’s vision of Developed J&K and Ladakh, PM’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, Skill India, Start-Up India etc.
She further added that NCW has set up a separate cell that focuses on issues faced by women in UT Ladakh and aims to facilitate the development in all spheres.
Earlier, the Rector of the Kargil Campus, UoL, Kaneez Fatima welcomed the guests. Dr Azra Khatoon, AP, GDC, Kargil also delivered a lecture on “Women’s Rights and Empowerment”.
J&K and Ladakh Women Cell Head, Faculty members of the campus, students, besides other concerned were present during the event.
