JAMMU, Dec 7: Shree Shree Jagat Amba Sharika Chakreshwar Sanstha in its meeting at Srinagar today has demanded immediate action against the people attempting to encroach the land of Sanstha at Charkeshwar, Srinagar few days back by felling the trees and removing the chain link fencing from the shrine.
The president of the Sanstha, Randeep Gurkha has sought the immediate intervention of the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir in the matter and urged him to protect this ancient Hindu religious shrine of Kashmir which dates back to Vedic period. He said the Jagat Amba Chakrishwar is the presiding deity of Kashmiri Pandits and it is most sacred shrine of Hindus in Kashmir where devotees used to visit from ancient times to seek Sidhi.
Gorkha said unfortunately some revenue officials are also trying to protect the land grabbers with ulterior motives and misguiding the people that Government has taken the control of land in 2010 which is totally wrong.
He said when the Government can’t take possession of shrines and the land belonging to other communities, how can it take possession of the land of this holy shrine of Hindus. He said had not the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) senior leader, Sanjay Saraf timely intervened the land mafia who have damaged the property of the shrine would have grabbed the land after cutting the trees.
He demanded immediate arrest of the land mafia responsible for the act and felling of lush green trees thereby damaging the ecology. Gorkha said any trespassing at this holy shrine will hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus all over country in general and Kashmiri Pandits in particular as they are emotionally attached to this shrine which is also known as Sidh Peeth in Hindu religious scriptures and the name of Srinagar city has been derived from the Shri Yantra engraved on a Shilla at this holy shrine, he added.
He said this shows the historical and religious significance of the Shrine which is the abode of Goddess Durga.
