This has reference to news item ‘Panchayat members reject militant diktats, refuse to resign’ DE Jan 18.
This is not for the first time that Panchayat members challenged the militants by refusing to resign as did some members in the wake of recent killing of a Panchayat members.
These people defied the diktats of militants during election process wherein people participated in large numbers.
The Government should ensure the safety of these members at any cost. Otherwise, resignation of panchayat members enmasse means that the Government writ does not run in this part of the country and is ruled by separatists.
Besides, every effort should be made to meet the genuine demands of Panches and Sarpanches to strengthen the democratic process in the country.
