JAMMU, Dec 16: Alleging large scale favouritism, nepotism and corruption in the process of selections conducted by various recruitment agencies, including SSB and PSC for Govt jobs, chairman of JKNPP and former Minister Harshdev Singh has sought change in recruitment policy for State Govt jobs by abolition of the interview system and making selections on the basis of academic merit.
Addressing protesting NPP activists at Exhibition Ground here today, Mr Singh said that there were several instances where process of interview was abused and merit subverted by awarding disproportionate marks to the tail-enders. He said that it was established that helmsmen who appoint their favourites as members of the recruitment agencies and then use the said members for getting favours for their blue eyed candidates in the viva- voce thus vitiate the sanctity of the entire selection process.
He alleged that intervention of top bureaucrats and politicians in the selection process has become a routine feature of all selections, creating great unrest amongst the educated unemployed youth. He said that though the BJP led Govt at the Centre had announced abolition of interview for all non-gazetted posts but ironically the BJP partnered Govt in J&K issued a notification last week mandating oral test (interview) for all such services which was to be held after written test. He sought abolition of Viva voce in the process of selections to Govt jobs.
Citing the latest instances of recently notified selection lists of candidates for teachers post in district Jammu and Udhampur, Mr Singh pointed out that two daughters of a former bureaucrat having 10+2 qualification had been selected as teacher by awarding them high marks in interview and ignoring several others with post graduation and B.Ed degrees. He said that there were many more instances where candidates with lesser qualification and lesser merit had been given the benefit.
Seeking the abolition of interview process particularly for class III and Class IV posts, he said that this would ensure transparency in the selection process besides restoring the faith of unemployed youth in the system. Senior party leader Yash Paul Kundal also spoke on the occasion.
