Chann Rodian residents continue protest, demand due compensation

JAMMU, Jan 2: The people of Chann Rodian near here whose land has been acquired for construction of Express Way are on protest dharna for last three days in support of their demand regarding release of compensation of their land and buildings which have come under Expressway today warned to intensify the agitation.
A large number of Chann Rodian residents, shop keepers including the women, children and old men sat on protest dharna on third day today also.
They were demanding the genuine compensation of their land, building and shops as per market price. The protestors Vijay Kumar, Surinder Kumar, Bimla Devi, Gopal Dass said that a big chunk of Agriculture land, commercial land, shops and houses have come under the construction of Expressway. But the administration was adopting step mother attitude and creating confusion while issuing the land compensation.
They said the effected people were given very low rates and one time settlement lowest rates as compared to other sites. The rates of compensation are very high just few kilometers away from this location. The administration is not justifying the difference created over issuing of the compensation, they alleged.
They said that the livelihood of a dozens of people could be secure if Expressway constructed an overfly bridge in this area and change the alignment of road to green field areas. They asked the higher authorities to take necessary action and give justice to them otherwise they will not allow them to play with their livelihood.
