JAMMU, Nov 28: A meeting of Channi Himmat Residents Association was held under the chairmanship of its president Advocate VK Grover in which the members expressed deep anguish over unreasonable and unjustified enhancement of sanitation charges from Rs.50 to Rs.100 per month per house.
The meeting said that no notification has been issued by any authority in this respect by virtue of which neither the residents can contest or challenge the levy nor the Jammu Municipal Corporation can enforce its collection.
It was observed that no heed is being paid to the regular complaints of the residents against poor performance of the field staff whose functioning is never monitored by the JMC authorities and there is continuous violation of the terms of contract in respect of daily cleaning and sweeping of lanes and by-lanes, desilting of drains, timely spraying of lime and disinfectants.
The members also demanded that as in case of Srinagar Municipal Corporation free dustbin and garbage bins be provided to the residents.
